Standardized Testing Essay

Standardised testing is the most common way of
evaluation in the world. However it advantages some types of learners while
disadvantaging the others.

One of the crucial things about standardised testing,
which people don't know is that it is and was always the same. We can compare
all the tests with a mathematical equation. For example we'll take 2+2=4. These
tests will never change the whole concept, but only the details, resulting
3+4=7. For people who think outside the box a lot, and they are quite a bit,
these evaluations are very similar to each other.

Another positive thing about standardised testing is
its strictness. Copying is punished severe and so is revealing the subjects.
All these things may seem bad, but they aren't at all. There were tens of cases
in which weak children got in a really good high school because of copying, and
once they found themselves there, all the information overwhelmed their little
brain leading to very poor grades and health issues.

Another pro argument is related to statistics. Since
all students in a school are taking the same test standardized tests provide an
accurate comparison across groups. For example, this makes it easy to see how
boys are performing as compared to girls in a particular school or even
country. Since statistics are very important as they are the easiest and
quickest ways on which important decisions are related.

On the other hand we have some cons regarding to
standardised testing. The first one is its related to how we see a smart
person. As Einstein said. "Everybody is a genius. But if you judge a fish
by its ability to climb a tree it will live its whole life believing that it is
stupid." In an unfortunate way, standardised testing are pretty much the
same. If you get a bad grade that doesn't represent you, you'll regret your
whole life and think of yourself as a dumb person. Demoralisation will be
stalking you and that awfulness will hunt you down.

Another issue about these tests is related to its
interior content. Maybe you are asked to describe a muffin. For most of us that
wouldn't be a problem, but for a poor Indian who only focuses on grammar or
mathematics just to pass the evaluation and doesn't have that type of dish in
his country, it would be a major problem.

Moreover, in many districts, raising test scores has
become the single most important indicator of school improvement. As a result,
teachers and administrators feel enormous pressure to ensure that test scores
go up. Schools narrow and change the curriculum to match the test. These things
again cause weak children to think they are superior to others, relating on the
test's unfair results.

Even if standardised testing has had a stable and respectful
place in our society, it is never too late to make changes.
